Year 5 Curriculum
Mexico
The children will begin this half term by continuing to study the Ancient Maya civilization before their focus switches to modern-day Mexico! In this topic, the children will learn about the Chihuahuan desert – the setting of our class novel, Holes – and compare it with the jungles where the Maya built cities. They will also learn about Mexico’s capital city (Mexico City), a typical day for a Mexican child living in a rural area, and Mexican traditions. To conclude the topic, the children will be learning about the fascinating Day of the Dead festival!
